How to access the private G-Stomper folders on Android 13 or higher

Postby planet-h » Mon Dec 02, 2024 7:39 pm

On Android 13 or later, the private isolated file storage of the G-Stomper apps at ...

"/sdcard/Android/data/<app-packagename>/files/gstomper"

... is protected by Android. This means, you can only access these folders with tools that have the required access permission.

We recommend the following methods to copy files to or from these private folders:

  • Connect your device via USB to a computer. Via USB you can access the private folders.
  • On your device, you can use Cx File Explorer to access the private folders.

The <app-packagename> is unique for each app:

  • G-Stomper Studio = com.planeth.gstomper
  • G-Stomper Studio DEMO = com.planeth.gstomperdemo
  • G-Stomper Producer = com.planeth.gstomperproducer
  • G-Stomper Producer DEMO = com.planeth.gstomperproducerdemo
  • G-Stomper Rhythm = com.planeth.rhythm
  • G-Stomper VA-Beast (standalone) = com.planeth.vabeast
  • G-Stomper VA-Beast (standalone) DEMO = com.planeth.vabeastdemo

G-Stomper 5.9.3.2 introduced a new way to access the private storage without the requirement of using a 3rd party app (see here).

If you don't want to use the CX File Explorer app, there's another trick to copy files from and to the private G-Stomper app folders.
You can use every G-Stomper sample pack app for that, e.g. G-Stomper Flph Edm 1.

  1. Open the sample pack app, then press preview files - this will open the system files picker.
  2. Then press the hamburger menu in the upper left corner to show the list of other storage locations.
  3. From the list on the left side, simply pick the G-Stomper app from which you want to access the private files.
  4. Navigate to the subfolder you want
  5. Long press a file or folder to select it.
  6. To select multiple files or folders, just tap the additional items.
    1. Then on top right corner, press the 3 dots menu, and then select “copy to …”
    2. Then again use the hamburger menu in the upper left corner and select the storage where you want to copy the files to.
    3. Navigate to the folder where you want to copy the files to.
    4. Finally, press the copy button at the bottom.
    1. In case you simply want to share a file(s), e.g. with the Dropbox app, use the share icon instead.
    2. Then pick the app to which you want to share the file.
That way you can copy files out the G-Stomper folders or even into these without requiring access to the folders over the file system.

With the latest update 5.9.3.2, all G-Stomper apps introduced two new features to handle the storage access smoothly.

Share files from G-Stomper private storage with other apps (e.g. file managers, mail, messenger, etc.):

This is the best choice to copy files from G-Stomper private storage to the device shared storage.

  1. Within the G-Stomper app, go to: Main Menu / SHR / Share files from G-Stomper private storage (all file types)
  2. Navigate to the folder from where you want to share files
  3. Select the file(s) you want to share
  4. Press OK
  5. Select the app to share the files with
Note that if you select only one single file, then you can choose from more apps to share with than if you share multiple files at once.

Copy files from device shared storage (anywhere on your device) to the G-Stomper private storage

  1. Within the G-Stomper app, go to: Main Menu / IMP / File manager (copy/move/..)
  2. Navigate to any folder of your device (can also be private folders of other G-Stomper apps)
  3. Long press the desired files or folders to select them
  4. In the upper right corner of the file manager, click the 3-dots (...) to open the menu
  5. Choose "Copy to..." from the menu
  6. In the upper left corner of the file manager, open the hamburger menu
  7. In the menu, choose the G-Stomper app to which you want to copy the files or folders to
  8. Navigate to the destination folder
  9. Finally, press the "Copy" button at the bottom of the file manager
