In the world of Drum Machines you’ll come across two main ways to add dynamics to the sample levels, Accentuation & Velocity.
Accentuation has two sample levels, normal and accentuated. The loudness of the two levels depends on the accent amount (see Chapter: Accent). In many cases, especially when creating basic beats, Accentuation is the fastest way to apply dynamics to the sample levels.
Velocity on the other hand allows you to set a specific sample level for each Step independently. This gives you a much wider range of dynamics, but it can be more time consuming to apply the levels.
Note: There’s no “better” or “worse” method, both have their advantages. It’s more a matter of your personal taste and what serves your personal needs in a certain situation.
The Drum Machine provides both, Accentuation and Velocity. You can use either one of them or both in combination.
