Re: Dear moon - gwoneo26
Nice one. Was this produced using G-Stomper Studio or Producer?
Re: Dear moon - gwoneo26
I personally love making music with G-stomper producer, it's really powerful and fun, (although I also enjoy using live hardware). I'm a computer scientist and I avoid the PC for my hobby (even if it seems stupid, the tablet is a considerable change)
I'm sorry that g-stomper is discontinued (or so it seems), it's a wonderful ecosystem, from which I never tire of learning and spending hours trying things out.
Almost all the music on my account is made with G-stomper. I hope you like it!

Thanks for sharing, Ponsato. Very interesting stuff. Looking forward to dive deeper into it. I totally agree that a tablet makes a big difference to using a PC. For me, using a touch interface is closer to hardware than to a PC.
Well, the G-Stomper ecosystem is definitely not discontinued. But yes, I cannot put as much effort into it as in the past. The other thing is that the apps are pretty complete in almost every way. However, I still do several updates per year. Latest feature updates have been note dragging on tonal grids, "select all" function on tonal grids in edit mode. Next upcoming is mp3, ogg, and flac sample support.
Re: Dear moon - gwoneo26
Great news! The last features you added are really useful, and I'm really glad to read about flac files!!!
I would love to be able to collaborate with a project like this, but unfortunately my knowledge of programming languages is limited to Web (and I don't think this is a hybrid app). Still, if you think I could collaborate with anything, I'd be happy to.
On the other hand, seeing that you are continuing with the application, I take the liberty of asking you for a couple of wishes (and excuse me for going off-topic) that would be ideal for the way I work (and I understand that they are not easy things, that's why I say "wishes"):
- Background playback: I use several synthesizer apps along with my instrument setup, and I would love to be able to create complete midi compositions in g-stomper to be played by other apps and instruments. This works great in principle, but however if you minimize g-stomper the playback stops automatically. this makes it impossible to work with g-stomper integrated with other apps, since you can't modify them as you can't minify g-stomper. Other apps solve this with a “background playback” option which would be ideal to have.
- Audio recording through a sound interface connected to the tablet: that is, it would be able to record sounds coming from an audio interface, and at the same time mix them with its own playback. Example: If I have an interface connected to the tablet, and in it some instruments like synthesizers, and in G-stomper a whole composition (without midi connection), when I give it to record “sound” of what is played in g-stomper, it only records its own sounds and not what I add with the instruments (although Android does play everything, through the interface). Apps like Audio Evolution Mobile is able to record what comes in, but for the previous reason of background playback, it is not possible to record the complete result in another app.
As a developer I understand that feature requests are often nice because people like your work, and on the other hand they create a commitment that you don't always want to fulfill... Don't feel obliged, they are just suggestions, g-stomper is already wonderful right now!!!
Thanks for everything!

Re: Dear moon - gwoneo26
Thanks a lot for your message.
For now, there is no room for a collaboration. The project is as said not discontinued, not at all. But it is in some sort of stand by, as I'm back in a full time job since almost 5 years already. As you expect, it's not a hybrid app, it's written in Java and C/C++. Audio performance requires native coding. I cannot imagine that any sort of hybrid would give acceptable results.
I have good news for you. This exists already. It's called stop lock.
Long press the "stop" button and you'll find it.

Just one point about background playback. Android limits the amount of CPU power an app gets in various ways.
The most CPU power is provided to an app when it's in foreground and actively used (active touches on the screen), second most when it's on foreground, and least if it's in background.
Means, background playback more often suffers from audio dropouts. However, Android performance has much improved over the last years. Therefore I think this shouldn't be a big issue anymore.
I understand what you mean. You must know that the audio session recorder in the G-Stomper apps does actually grab the audio stream before it even leaves the app. Means it's recorded in the apps inner audio quality. Therefore, even if your device output does not support 32bit 96kHz audio, you can still record the stream in that quality (of course, if the device has enough CPU power to provide it). However, in theory, it could be possible. But it'll likely have around 30-50ms of roundtrip latency (from mic-in to audio-out). But it might be worth a try. I've added this to the feature requests list.
Thanks for explaining that clearly. Shows that you're a developer
Many thanks for the kind words.
Checking out your music at the moment. Really nice and nifty work.

This makes me happier and happier... a whole world has just opened up for me... (plus now I feel like an idiot for not seeing it before, hehe).... I studied the documentation and watched all the videos before buying the apps... but they have too much stuff (I suspected it had to exist, but I'm waiting for it in the audio settings).

Wonderful...
It's rather a whim to use one's own instruments to ‘embellish’ the G-Stomper compositions in some way, but it's not a real necessity (too many layers of sound can already be added to contemplate external ones as well).
I'm glad you like my music, it's thanks to the finesse of your apps that I was motivated to make it (all other similar apps completely discouraged me).
Thank you for everything!

I used G-Stomper Studio, in fact, I had to split the song into two parts since my phone didn't support so many different sounds, to finally join the audio files xd
