G-Stomper Studio / VA-Beast MIDI connectivity

Postby planet-h » Tue Mar 18, 2014 10:20 am

Always wondered how to connect the G-Stomper apps with external MIDI equipment?

Here is the HowTo.

Thanks for this information. But for me it is still not obvious, can I also connect the beat studio or rhythm to a hardware synth to use it as a sequencer?

Welcome to the forum magickz
Sorry for the late response, just noticed your posting this moment.

Yes, of course, you can connect G-Stomper Studio, G-Stomper Rhythm and G-Stomper VA-Beast to any software or hardware sequencer via midi.
I've tested it together with an electribe esx which works perfectly.

You can either leave the sequence on the G-Stomper apps and just sync them to the midi clock of your sequencer...
... or you can disable the midi sync/midi start/stop/continue in the g-stomper settings and then create the sequence on your sequencer (hardware or software)

Hope this answers your question

Thank you for your answer. Though I am still not sure if we talk about the same kind of application, I'll give it a try. The idea was to use G-Stomper software to create some rhythms on my phone or tablet while I am not at the PC, and to export or record it later in my DAW in the form of MIDI data (alternatively play it with my MicroBrute via USB to Midi connection). I understand from your answer, that it is possible to play the app from external MIDI controllers/sequencers, but I intend to use it the other way round - use G-Stomper to play an external synth. If I find a way to convert .ryp files to midi, that would be already a step into the direction that I had in mind.

Later I will try to get those cables that you recommend.

Btw. If you have a plan to make a VST version of your synth, I'll be one of your first buyers  - assumed that it enables me to design on the phone while I am not at home, and use the preset later in the VST.

Schöne Grüße aus Münster.

Ah, OK, now I got it.
You're talking about midi export.
I'm very sorry, but this is not yet possible. It's planned, but not yet implemented.
One of the next things will be MIDI out, which is still no midi export, but it goes in that direction.. Factually then you can record the midi messages with your sequencer.

Anyway, it's planned, but it'll take a while.

There are no concrete plans for a VSTi, but I'd never say never ;)

Sorry to drudge up this old thread but I seem to be missing any newer documentation on this. Does the app support MIDI Out (that's to say, sequencing TO external MIDI synths from the G Stomper sequencer) yet? In this thread from last summer you said it would be one of the next things. As I am a hardware synth nerd this one feature is HUGE to me, so I'm hoping there's been some movement toward this?

thanks

Thank you for your message, and welcome to the forum 17hex.

Here is the latest Midi Doc : http://www.planet-h.com/gstomper/docs/pdf/G-Stomper_UserManual_Midi.pdf

For now, it is still limited to midi in, but that will change with one of the next updates. And yes, you're right, it was planned as one of the next things last summer. But the new UI design took longer than expected, therefore it's delayed. Now since all the UI design is finished, midi completion is definitely one of the next tasks. Also meanwhile, I found quite a good solution for the midi mapping of the drum machine/sampler tracks. So there's nothing in its way now.

MIDI OUT MIDI OUT MIDI OUT
ALL TOGETHER NOW!!!
Ha ha
it would be a great addition ( as you are not busy enough... )
It is very few apps offering this and saw that Oscilab will implement it if ther is enough interest... that would be a great app for Midi out function.
The only ones that comes to mind is B-Stepper and one if there is anyone really interested is Audio Evolution with full MIdi out messages and a DAW piano roll sequencer that can automate any parameter in your hardware device.
Tried some time ago and it worked very good.
