The Setup menu looks like an overlay and maybe it can be started with a link from anywhere like a button in they main menu. I think when you get this done, it could be more intuitive to the users. Most other softwares have their settings in the main menu. As I told before, it doesn't matter if not.
Thanks for your support!
I agree with you, Hiccup, that a settings menu generally belongs to "a" main menu.
But it doesn't belong to the main menu in its current form. Also, it's not that easy to integrate it to the main menu for various logical and technical reasons.
As said, I'll think about a solution. But it's not decided yet how far such a change might go (just a simple switch in the main menu, a new toolbar switch, or even a re-designed menu structure).
I also agree with you, that the settings would surely be helpful on every view.
But unfortunately it's quite more than just adding a switch or a second tab line;)
The task is actually on the plan since a while, it's just not at highest priority, as there are other more important things waiting.
Anyway, thanks for the push. It's always good to know that there's a potential need for a feature.
