[NOT A BUG] Unable to save PatternSet

Postby allanjuiceup » Fri Apr 09, 2021 8:37 am

reinstalled to a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G on Android 11.

Problem: Unable to create/access file for writing: '/storage/emulated/0/gstomper/patternsets/bass/bass.gsse.tmp'.

- no denied permissions
- could not save PatternSet even after creating new folder

What you report is not a bug.
Please save your pattern sets, where G-Stomper is supposed to save it.
As of Android 8.0, G-Stomper apps do not any longer have access to the shared storage "/storage/emulated/0/gstomper"
(and I'm 100% sure that your Note 20 runs at a higher Android version)
Instead the apps write to “/sdcard/Android/data/<app-packagename>/files/gstomper”.

All information about this change (which was made years ago) can be found in this topic.
With a bit of copying, you can move all your data to the new storage location. It's all described in here.
The topic also explains why this change was done, as it was not our idea. It was forced by the new privacy measures in the Android OS 10 and higher.

Thanks for your understanding.

Btw. you can of course still load files from shared storage "/storage/emulated/0/gstomper" using the system files picker.
To do so, just go to: main menu / load / ... then long press (press and hold) pattern set to show up the system files picker.
But you cannot write any data to that location anymore.
Please just use the new folders, and all will be fine.
