As I don't have such a device to test with, and as I don't know what MIDI equipment, cables and everything else you use, it's impossible to answer your question.
The only way to find out is to test it.

It is asking a lot for your mobile phone or tablet to power a controller via OTG. Also, my own personal experience is some OTG cables just aren't up to the job of powering devices. One of my OTG cables started out working, but it either burned out because it could handle a signal but couldn't handle the milliamps, or it was built to have the lifespan of a mayfly! If you are having problems, suspect it might be device power. If your device can take external power, try that. Otherwise, look at powered USB hubs. If all else fails, bluetooth controllers apparently work pretty well.
